Understanding Endometriosis: Symptoms, Pain & What to Do

Question
The problems first started when I was 22.  They said I have cysts and put me on birth control to reduce them.  It worked, I was on Zovia for a year and a half.  Then this July, strong pains began to start, I thought it was just another cyst, but it would not go away.  The pain gradually got worse and worse and more constant.  It hardly went away, there was always a dull pain there all the time with random sharp shooting pain especially when I twisted, stretched, etc.  Sometimes the pain was debilitating, I could not walk, sit or stand up straight.  It is combined with nausea, back and joint pain, fatigue, bloating, and constipation.  I've been to 4 doctors and even the emergency room because the pain was so bad.  No one can give me answers, they say it could be endo or something with my GI track.  CT scan was clear, colonoscopy was clear, blood work clear.  Could this be endo?  I'm never out of pain, whether it be dull and constant or sharp and stabbing pain.  Please help and if you can give advice on what I should do.  One doctor wants me to have laproscopic surgery.  Is that the best thing for me?  One OBGYN wanted me to have that but before doing that I wanted a second opinion to be sure that was the right thing to do and the other doctor said it sounded like GI track related.  In the mean time I went to the Gastro doctor and everything was pretty much clear, no answers, I see that OBGYN next Thursday so maybe now she will say I need to surgery.  We shall see.  But any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Heather,
Judging from my past and your symptoms...I would definitely say...you have endo. You should have the Lap procedure. It is a minor procedure where they take a look inside to see how severe your endo is. Your bowel area could also be affected. The fact that moving and stretching gives you pain could mean that your ovaries and other areas are also compromised.
The lap is a sure fire way to see what is going on. That way you can be treated accordingly and have less pain. While they are doing the Lap...they may remove endo that they see. It is not an overly painful procedure. You will experience some discomfort...but your cramps, nausea and bloating are far worse in comparison.
I wish you luck and hope that you are finally diagnosed correctly. It is also very important that you find a good gyno...one that is considered a HIGH RISK gyno.
    Take care of your self.
