QuestionHi,
I had my first child in 1998 and my second in 2000. Both were C-section.
In 2003 I was diagnosed with Endo. and have not had any surgery, I have just been dealing with the pain using over the counter medication.
My husband and I have decided we would like one more child, and were wondering if the Endo. will affect my fertility although I had two children already.
My doctor said since I have had children, it is obvious that the Endo. doesn't affect my fertility, but I had no symptoms of having Endo until a few years after my last child.
So is she wrong? Could it have developed after my last child, and now cause fertility problems?
We have only been trying to get pregnant for a few months, so we may be jumping the gun, but With our first, we got pregnant the first month we tried, and the second was a surprise that we were not even trying for and actually were using birth control.
So now I am anxious that Endo. is the reason I can't get pregnant now, and that I won't be able to at all.
Thank you for your time,
Amy
AnswerAmy,
At the time when you had your first two children your Endo may not have played any roll at all in your ability to conceive. But Endo is a progressive disease and gets worse over time. That's why women have many surgeries to help manage their Endo.
I would probably wait a couple of months to see if you are able to conceieve and if you are still having problems then I would deffinately have a Laparoscopy and laser surgery done. Most Endo docs will tell you the best chance to conceive would be right after laser surgery.
I wouldn't put this off for too long because Endo does affect womens' fertility. Better to be safe than sorry.
If your doctor still tells you that your Endo can not be the problem because you have already had children then my next suggestion would be to find another doctor.
If you have any other questions please feel free to write to me again.
Sincerely,
Angie
PS. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, I had a computer virus that had me down for 3 days.
