QuestionI had a hysterectomy about 4 years ago, i had suffered serve case of endo from the age of 17. I have had a few problems off and on since then, but for the last 6 months I have been having real bad cramping in the pelvic area and pain during sex. Before the hysterectomy I had had 7 surgeries and one for removal of the left overary. I am just wondering what you think might be going on..
AnswerHi Annelle,
This is probably not what you want to hear....it is probably your Endo returning. It is widely known by Endo experts that a hysterectomy does not cure Endo. You may be pain free from a year to ten years, but, most likely it will return. The idea of a hysterectomy for the treatment of Endo makes sense to some but Endo does not only grow in the reproductive area. Endo grows in so many areas...bowel, lungs, legs and arms to name a few. If you remove the female reproductive organs, it's not going to help Endo growing in other areas. It may lay dormat for awhile, but it returns. It really bothers me that doctors are still putting women through this type of surgery because women think..."I'll do without anything to get rid of this pain" and it doesn't last.
Your next logical step would be to have another Lap done. Check and see what is going on in there. The problem is that doctors that do hysts to cure Endo believe that's what it does...so they are reluctant to believe that your pain is back.
By the amount of surgeries you have had it sounds as if you do have medical insurance...you may want to check into the top Endo experts and see what they have to say. Your insurance will probably fight paying for an out of state doctor, but you can fight that if you want to put forth the time and energy.
A great site to visit is www.endo-resolved.com. There is a ton of great info...another site you may want to check out is www.hystersisters.com. On that site you sign up (free) and many women who have had hysts post and answer questions and comments. Many have had hysts because of Endo and are in the same boat as you.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Angie
