Endometriosis Treatment: A Patient's Journey & Perspective

Question
Angie,
I was with a horrid doctor for 14 years who, I feel, just thought I would get pregnant and everything would be fine. I believe she suspected I had endo but did nothing to help. After my wedding 5 years ago at the age of thirty and after 12 years of bc pills, I got off the pill, so my husband and I could start "trying". In 2003 I was in so much pain I decided to go to a new dr. She is great. I had my first laparotomy for endometriomas and almost lost my right ovary b/c of the neglect of my old dr. I had 6 months of Lupron Depot shots, got pregnant 2 months after that and had a miscarriage at the end of second month. We "tried" for another year. In 2005 I had an HSG (tubes blown) and then another laparotomy in in the fall of that year. I started fertility treatments in March 2006 for IUI, but my endometriomas came back with a vengeance. After 6 more months of BC pills, I was then diagnosed with AntiPhospholipid Syndrome, or APA (blood clotting prob). So, basically, I'm sick of doctors. I am eating organic foods (no hormones) and starting an excercise program. My cysts will no doubt be back and I am just reaching out for any answers. I have done massive research and found that the APA is found in 66% of women with endo. I am interested it what you know, if anything, about the effects of natural progesterone on someone like me. Balancing the estrogen and progesterone seems like a logical next step since my drs., and I have a ton of them, do not seem to want to admit that there is a connection. I am tired of the chemicals being put in my body with little or no results. What do you think? Forgive the length of my history, but I am at a loss. There doesn't seem to be a dr. that fits my diseases! Should I see someone in Atlanta? Please help!
Rachel

Answer
Hi Rachel,

I am so sorry to hear all that you have been going through. So many of us go through the same things that you are going through. Not that it is much comfort, but know that you are not alone.

I do not know much about APA, so I really can not help there. You gave me something to look into and learn about.

Natural Progesterone cream can help with your pain associated with your Endo. I read about the stuff on the internet and asked one of the doctors in Atlanta if he thought it would ok to use. He said yes, it was even a good idea while awaiting surgery. He said that the Natural Progesterone cream actually helps about 70% of the women who use it correctly. If interested in going this route please visit www.endo-resolved.com. There are very strict guidelines on what kind to use and the dosage.

With your fertility problems, if possible, I would deffinately put a lot of thought into seeing the doctors in Georgia. They have astounding rates of infertile women getting pregnant after surgery with them. The percentage of women who are pain free many years to come after surgery there is astounding too. If you have medical insurance they will help guide you in what must be done to have your insurance cover them. If you do not have medical insurance they will also cut the cost of surgery and you can work with the hospital on their cost also. If you want to you can send them your medical records and either Dr. Albee or Sinervo will contact you after review and let you know what they can do for you. This is at no cost to you.

One more thing I feel I need to stress is to make sure you have copies of your medical records and know what is in them.

I never bothered to look at mine or get copies until I decided my next logical step was to have surgery with specialists. After many years of not being able to have children, I found out that during my first surgery the doctors found out that both my tubes were blocked. They did nothing to unblock them, told me to try to conceive right away or I would not be able to have children. I went through all kinds of fertility treatments and never was able to have children. (Because my tubes were blocked the entire time and I did not know). Now, my Endo has progressed so much that I will not have children.

So, it is VERY important to have your records and to understand them.

Now that I am done with my rant....again, I would strongly reccommend surgery with the doctors in Atlanta if that is a possiblity for you. www.centerforendo.com.

Any other questions, please feel free to write tome at any time.

Sincerely,

Angie
