NuvaRing and Leg Pain: Potential Risks & What to Do
QuestionHi! I am 40 y/o who recently was prescribed with the Nuva ring for heavy and very painfull periods and spotting all month. I just started my 4th month with this. It has tremendously helped with the above symptoms. For about 2/12 mths my spider veins have started to ache...sting...now it seems to feel like my lower legs just ache constantly. It just dawned on me that it could be the birth control. I have taken it out. Should I be worried about clots? I spoke to the doctor on call at my OBGYN and he just said take it out and call to talk to my reg doctor on Monday. When I look back they symptoms all started about a month or so after I started using the ring. Is this common? How long will it take for the discomfort to go away. Its just an annoying stinging that doesnt stop. I have no swelling. Thank you in advance.
AnswerLisa,
I am sorry to hear your story and your problems. I don't recommend hormonal birth control because of side effects and health problems such as you are mentioning. I'm glad that you figured out that it might be the Nuva ring and removed it. Please let me know how your doctor's visit went and what was the results.
I haven't heard of this particular side effect but I'm not surpised at all by what you have said. I can't tell you how long it will take for the stinging to go away but I really hope soon, for your sake.
Let me know what happens. My email address is DCHERYL51@yahoo.com if you want to reach me by email.
Sincerely,
