Question
Hi
i've had a medical abortion 4weeks ago. Unfortunately it was my second as the first one was too early in the pregnancy. I've had protected sex after the abortion as my doctor did not inform this was not a good idea. Last week i've been for a check up an was told that i have a slight infection and was put on stronger antibiotics. 2days thereafter i began bleedin really heavy till today,my 5th day on them.i'm soakin a pad in a matter of a hour. I've also been feelin weak an feverish and a constant pain on my lower abdomen and back. Basically when i cough i can feel my womb hurting. Should i go to er or wait for my next appointment in a weeks time? Is there something wrong? Please do let me know as soon as possible.. Thank you

Answer
Hello, Nicky,

The fact that you are running a fever is actually encouraging. There is one kind of infection a woman can get from a pill abortion that can kill a woman within hours, because her body doesn't fight back, hence, she doesn't develop a fever. Check and see if you are actually running a fever.

That much bleeding is dangerous. It weakens your immune system, among other things, and it is possible for you to bleed to death. This is happening.

Antibiotics can also be a problem. First, they only deal with bacteria. If you have a fungus or a virus, they won't do anything. And they destroy beneficial bacteria in the intestines. You need to be taking pro-biotics at the same time. It is difficult to get pro-biotics where the bacteria are still alive. Ask your doctor about this. Don't go back to the person who provided the pills. That person cannot be trusted. Here's why. The manufacturer of the second medication has specifically said that a pregnant woman should never take it. If that person didn't read the prescribing information, she has been negligent. The manufacturer says this because there are several ways it can kill a woman. It can also cause a woman's uterus to rupture. It sounds to me like there are a lot of things she didn't tell you. And you are entitled to informed consent, which means she has a duty to tell you what the risks are.

Continuing to have sex is also risky. Protection doesn't work. You should think seriously about not having sex, especially if you are not married. Even if you can prevent pregnancy, there are too many diseases you can get, and condoms don't protect against many of them, either. In addition to sexually transmitted diseases, you could get pelvic inflammatory disease, which will cause pain and harm your fertility. Since it's been 4 weeks, perhaps you won't have to worry about toxic shock syndrome. I hope this is the case. This is caused by Clostridium sordellii. This is the infection that is usually fatal. It can kill within hours. I know of women who were fine for a week, and then got it.

I urge you to go to the emergency room. Please let me know what you find out, and take care. Please don't take any more chances.
