Post-Medical Abortion: Understanding Delayed Periods & What to Expect
QuestionHi ,
I was 8 weeks pregnant when i had the medical abortion . I went for my follow up visit and everything was fine, good ultrasound and blood test. I started taking Low Ogestrol (Pill) and I did everything i was supposed to do . Havent missed a pill or anything . Yesterday was my last day of "realPills" in this pack and im now on the placebo pills which is when im supposed to get my period , but I havent yet. I was just wondering if this is normal or if i should be worried ? I used a back up method for the first two weeks while taking my pills as well . But no longer after two weeks. ... I was supposed to get my period today since the last real pill i took was last night .. Is it normal or should i be worried ? Thanks so much !!!
AnswerDear Caroline,
It is completely normal to have a late period after an abortion. There is no reason you should be pregnant again, if you started birth control pills right away after medical abortion. Just continue taking the pills as directed. If you don't get your period at all this week, check a pregnancy test. If it is negative, just start your next pack. You may have irregular bleeding for a month or two, but your period will go back to normal.
