Post-Medical Abortion Recovery: Bleeding, Birth Control & Safe Sex

Question
Hi, Unfortiantly on may 15 i had a medical abortion done. I went through the procedure on a friday and immediatly started my birth control on that sunday. I bled heavy for about the first week. I went to my check up like i was suppose to and was told everything looked fine, but i would still continue to bleed irregular for up to 2 months. I stoped bleeding only 5 days ago, but after my check up i was told it was ok to have sex. B.c i was put on birth control i did have un protected sex 3 x in the last 3 weeks. I am currently on my "sugar pill" stage and have no yett recieved my period. I did how ever, "bleed" out a brown thick discharge when i woke up. Is this normal? or is there a chance i could be pregnant again? I remember this happening when i found out i was pregnant and it was caused by implantation. Im just looking for some answers. Thanks ahead of time!

Answer
Hi Devin,

I can't tell you over the internet if you are pregnant or not. It is possible that you are pregnant if you have had sexual intercourse after your abortion. Just remember that no birth control method prevents pregnancy 100% of the time. The only way to avoid pregnancy completely is abstinence. Also, hormonal birth control methods can have risks and side effects, short-term and long-term.

Long-term bleeding can cause anemia so please be careful about that.
If you seriously think you are pregnant, then find a local pregnancy resource center and get a free test. Call 1-800-395-HELP or go to http://www.optionline.org Another good website for finding a center
