QuestionHi I know I am wrong for what I have done, but on Fri. Apr. 20 I had an abortion. Of course the doctors advised me of not having sex until after 4 weeks for risk of infection and possible pregnancy, but on Sat. Apr. 21 I had sex and my partner ejaculated inside of me and I was wondering what are the chances of me being right back pregnant again.
AnswerDear Daisy,
Your risk of infection is much, much higher than the risk of pregnancy one day after the procedure. They give you those instructions for very valid reasons. Cervical and uterine tissue is left raw and extremely susceptible to infection. Any foreign substance, including semen, is a potential source for infection. This is something that can be very serious. Hopefully, they have placed you on an antibiotic as a precaution. If not, I would recommend that you call your doctor or the clinic back, explain to them that you did have sex the next day, and ask if you can be put on a prophylactic antibiotic. Do not ignore any symptoms of infection - abnormal uterine bleeding, lower abdominal pain, or fever.
As far as pregnancy, it is unlikely that you would be at risk for pregnancy the next day because you would not have ovulated that soon. However, if you do not want to end up facing this dilemma again in another couple of months, I would strongly suggest protecting yourself from pregnancy during the course of the next 4 weeks - and anytime thereafter that you do not want to conceive. Take good care of your body...it's the only one you'll get.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
