Post-Abortion Odor: What to Know & When to Worry
QuestionHi there, I took the abortion pill on jan 7-9. I took my antibiotics and followed the info sheet I received. I didn't go back for my 2 week check up. I wasn't really capable as the abortion hit me pretty hard and I felt very uncomfortable going back to the clinic. I know that was incredibly stupid but I can't really change it now. I got my period jan 29th, I know that is a bit early but I felt fine so I wasn't alarmed. Yesterday I was changing my tampon and I noticed a pretty foul odor and some brown blood, I assumed that it was just "leftover" tissues, blood etc from the abortion but this morning I changed my tampon again and it smelled DISGUSTING. I've had BV before this is NOT BV. I was worried about having left a tampon in me as thats also happened before and I checked as throughly as I could with my fingers and the smell isn't the same so I'm almost positive its not that. I have no fever or cramping, could this still be an infection? I'm going to call and make a check up in the morning but I was wondering if you had heard of this before and if its normal.
Thanks for any help!
AnswerHi :)
No, it wasn't stupid. As long as you feel ok. It's definitely good you're going to get a check up, because the bad odor, especially this long after the abortion isn't normal, but it also might not have anything to do with the abortion. It's hard to tell what it could mean-but the fact that there's no fever or cramping is a great sign. It could very well be the tampon, and unfortunately could be a sign that the not all of the pregnancy tissue was expelled from the uterus. Sorry I can't give you a more definite answer, just make sure you get a check up, and as long as you don't start having any cramping/fever, you should be ok.
