Nail Enhancement Scam: Received Acrylics Instead of Gel - What To Do?

Question
Just like the lady (Gina ) on 12/08/06 I yhad exactly the same experience . Asked for gel enhancements and later found out after a great deal of research that I indeed received acrylics. I went to salon yesterday because of whit area ( lifting near cuticle, and also the shiny surface at the nail tips was chipped off. This all started about day 4or 5. They just wanted to put a polish over it. What do I do from here. Do I ned to have these remoived. I have never had enhancements so I am totally uneducated in this area. Any advice or recommendations would be helpful Thanks Brenda

Answer
Dear Brenda,

I belong to a group of nail techs that frequently discuss such issues.  Many techs prefer to remove the old enhancements, and will want to apply a new set so they can 'guarantee' their product.  However, often when mma nails or nails from an nss salon are applied, the natural nail is filed with an electric file.  The natural nails should NEVER be filed in such a manner. It's EXTREMELY damaging.  So, in the group that I belong to; we prefer to leave them there and refill.  The reason for this is that if you remove them, likely the nails will be so damaged that the new set won't 'stick' very well to such a weak base AND your fingers will be sore from the damage that is exposed made by the previous tech.
IF your natural nails were filed, I urge you to simply have them refilled by a reputable tech, and let the old product grow out.  This is the best way to proceed, minimizing discomfort and lifting issues.  Both UV Gel and Acrylic of ANY brand may be applied. Anyone that says differently is wrong.   So, you can have your nails refilled by either product.
Please note: neither UV Gel nor Acrylic of any brand is better than the other. For quality products, they are both equal.  In fact, UV Gel is actually a form of acrylic, but already mixed. If that makes sense?  So, if you are choosing UV Gel because someone told you it's "better" for your nails, they scammed you.  They both have their own characteristics.
HOWEVER if you want to be CERTAIN it's not MMA acrylic, then the only possible solution is to choose real uv gel.  That is the only guarantee.

I do hope this answer helps
