Gel vs. Solar Nails: Which is Right for You?

Question
In the town that I live, 90% of nail salons only do solar/acrylic - Most have never even heard of Gels.  I have found 2 places that do gels and am wondering what your advice would be on choosing between Solar vs. Gels for my nails.  I had worn acrylic a few years ago and found that they were very easy to pop off.  Once one would pop off, I would have a hard time not popping off the others (I tend to bite cuticles! :(  )  I've heard alot of good things about gels, but since the experience is so limited here, I wasn't sure if it would be wise to do gels when they are so rarely used here.  The woman that I spoke with seemed to feel very confident about using gels and seems to have very good qualifications, its just that she only has a few customers that use the gel over the solar.  What to do??? Is one better then the other, and do you need a technician that does only gels to get a good result?

Thanks for your advice!
Michelle

Answer
Well this actually depends on what the salons you are talking about are ACTUALLY using.

Alot of NSS Salons (non-standard, discount salons) advertise "Solar nails" and don't even actually know what they ARE.   If they ARE in fact using Solar nail, it's just a liquid and powder acrylic product applied over a tip or sculpted on a form, and is an older technology invented by Creative Nail Design in the 70-80's.  Newer Technology has seen products that actually BOND to the keratin in your nail plate, for superb toughness and a thin appearance.

There is no one product that is better than the other when it comes to Gel vs. Liquid and Powder (AKA ACRYLIC).  What is important is the training your tech actually HAS.  And it should be CURRENT training!  Great tech's go to classes every year, or at least every other year, to get the latest and greatest techniques and information for top notch product companies.

For a good result, you need a tech that is a Master in ALL of the forms of Nail Enhancements.  Because she can then help prescribe what will work best on YOUR particular hands.
