QuestionHi, I would like to know the approximate time it will take to have a set of acrylic (or gel) nails applied. I'm trying to plan for a babysitter. thanks so much, Kirsten
AnswerDear Kirsten
A discount nail salon, or 'nail bar' that is "NSS" (which means Non Standard Salon) may complete a set in 45min. HOWEVER, they will not have prepped your nails properly, and will likely etch your natural nail with an electric file that will A) HURT! and B)damage your natural nails. There are also other shortcuts that they make use of that are damaging to the nails, put you at risk of infection, and possibly expose you to toxic products.
They will likely not take into consideration your own wants in terms of shape and length etc..... and you may find them overly thick and unnattractive.
They are cheap and fast BUT that's exactly what you end up with. A shoddy job.
HOWEVER, a qualified technician, who does her work PROPERLY and CONSCIENTIOUSLY, will do a thorough consultation, a thorough and hygienic prep of your nails that will NOT hurt NOR damage your natural nails.
He/She will use products that are NOT illegal, NOR toxic, NOR damaging to the natural nail.
He/She will confer with you regarding the appropriate shape and/or length for your nails and lifestyle.
This will likely take 1.5hrs to 2hrs maximum.
Your service will not hurt. Your nails won't be damaged. You will be treated as a person and not a number. And your nails will look lovely.
Here's a page on my site to help you learn how to discern the difference between NSS and quality techs and to learn more about the dangers and damage of MMA:

Perhaps you can find a "Mobile" technician that can do your nails in your home?
Best of luck
