French Manicure Nail Damage: What to Do?

Question
Hello Ms. Duarte,

You have been very good help. You answered my question on the topic of French Manicure on 3/25/07.  I read all about MMA and now I very much afraid.  I took two days to soak off the nails and my nails are damaged, very soft, tender and painful.  I was wondering what kind of doctor should I go to and would they know If I have an infection from the aching pain?  Once again I paid $35.00 and she used lots of white powder and some water liquid to apply to my nails and I had to hold my nails under a light that looks like a lamp.  I'm wondering if it is MMA, I did not get a receipt.  Thanks again.

Answer
Well, usually a new set of nail enhancements should cost over $50-$60 in a good nail tech.
Also if the enhancement is acrylic (liquid and powder) there should be no need to place it in the UV lamp, that is used for Gels, but you could have a UV top gloss applied to avoid having to buff them to high shine.
Usually good nail tech are better at resolving damage done by MMA than doctors, nail techs deal with damaged nail plates on a daily basis and belive it or not an overlay is usually a good treatment, it protects the damaged nail plate against aggression relives the soreness almost immediately and allows the nail to grow back healthy.
So i would recommend that you go to a qualified, experienced nail tech using a reputable brand.
Look for a salon with good hygiene, that does a consultation to learn about what the client wants and what she does with her nails to recommend the best product and the best length for them and that gives you a careful explanation of aftercare you should pay to your nails.
Hope i could help once again.
