Back Fill Acrylic Nails: What It Is & Why You Need It

Question
I have acryllic nails and have had them filled four times now.  At my last fill, my nail tech mentioned having a back fill next time.  What is a back fill?  This is the longest I've ever been able to keep my acryllic nails on, and I've never had a back fill.

Answer
Dear Shelby,

A backfill is when a 'trench' is drilled behind the white when the white has grown out and is showing the natural smile line. This trench is then filled in with more white acrylic to 'correct' the smile line.

Infills are when the area that has grown out (near the cuticle) is filled in.

Rebalances is when the entire surface if filed down and reshaped because the correct placement of the apex (arch) needs readjusting to strengthen and 'balance' the shape of the nail.

I hope this helps

best regards.
