QuestionHi - I have been wearing Pink & Whites for a couple of years now. I love the look of always having a frenchy manicure but there are a couple of things I am disappointed with. First, I have had my set about 4 weeks now (I have only had one pink fill since new set was put on) and I'm noticing that my nails are turning yellow and looking "old" already. Also, when my nail tech does a fill, I can clearly see the lines from the previous fill - and so can everyone else I think. Is this normal? Is there a different process that I can be using to have my nails looking "new" longer or do I just need to find a new nail salon? Thanks for your help!
AnswerHi Lisa!
If your nails are turning yellow, it's most likely the product your tech is using- it may be old, your techs brush may be contaminated; there are a slew of possibilities.
But as for fill lines? Your tech is using improper techniques for filing, prep, and rebalancing (fills).
Lifting at the cuticle is caused by improper prep- this involves removal of the cuticle and removing the shine from the nail plate before application of the liquid and powder enhancement (AKA Acrylic). A lot of techs merely push the cuticles back with their abrasive while filing. This leaves slivers of dead tissue on the nail for one, and for two it removes many layers of your nail plate, damaging it beyond repair. Cuticles should be dissolved with a professional grade remover, with a main ingredient called SODIUM HYDROXIDE. It basically eats the dead tissue away, making it easy to sort of "scrub off" the nail plate.
High end liquid and powder products using covalent bonds to create permanent bonds between the product and your nail plates are available too.
If some lifting does occur, it should be filed completely away, and new product should NEVER be applied over any that has lifted. It's just asking for bacteria or moisture to get trapped under it, not to mention it looks highly unattractive.
You should also be getting a full french rebalance every two weeks- I know it seems stiff, but when product is applied to your nails by a trained professional with good product, it is applied to give the best strength and aesthetic beauty. A full rebalance will keep your nails looking good, feeling great, with best results in the long run. Your nails will always look brand new!
