Why Are My Acrylic Nails Breaking? Causes & Solutions

Question
I have been doing my own acrylic nails for two years.  I apply the tips and overlay them with acrylic.  Every two weeks I do a fill and then every six weeks I put on a new set.  The past two times I put on a new set I have had a nail break within a couple of days.  I am not doing anything differently than I have always done it and can't imagine why they would be breaking.  Do you think I just bought a defective set of tips?

Answer
hi racheal
there could b a number of reasons why these problems are happening.
have u had any training and which products are u using?
is it a professional product or one from a chemist?
even if u havent had any training and u are using a non trade product, u didnt have these products for 2 yrsso lets look at the possible problems.
your brush may now b contaminated, do u keep your brush flat & covered when not in use? this is the best way, if there is contamination in your brush there will be yellow streaks in your acrylic or on the tissue when u wipe it.
may be your liquid has gone "off". most liquids have a shelf life of 1 yr, and need to b kept at room temp, too hot and it will go off sooner.
it is poss that your tips are defective, if they are non trade, they will have been made from very cheap plastic and they can crack a lot quicker.
if you want to answer these questions i might b able to pin it down for you,
