Healthy Nails: Understanding the Trend and Alternatives

Question
I have been a nail tech for 18 years, I have always used acrylic, Creative for the past 10+ years.  Since moving to a small, elite beach town in South Florida I have worked in a number of spas and they will not allow me to use the acrylic systems with an odor and I am not pleased with any of the odorless acrylic systems.  The Oriental salons in town are doing what they call "Healthy Nails" and they have every woman in town convinced that this artificial application is healthy for them.  I went and tried it for myself and the tech that I had didn't speak English very well so all she could say was Healthy nail gel - it was numerous thin coats of glue then dipping into a powder, another coat of glue another dip and so on.  I tried to find out what and where to get the product but they will not reveal the information they said the salon owner created it himself!  Do you know what this is?  Or something similar that would please the clients and the spa owners??

Answer
Hello traci,
Well I definitly understand your problem! I have found that when I work in spas, Gel nails work best. They have no order they cure under a light, and its pretty easy! I personally prefere acrylics but if they wont allow them I would just stick to gels. Because like you said the orderless is a terrible product!

As for what they are doing in flordia, hes lying to you when he said he made it himself. This is a powder gel. Its pretty lame. Its a gel but it's applied like acrylic in a powder form. Its not popular and it is not made by any big brands which is probably why you cant find it. If you really wanted it I would go to an all Asian beauty supply and they should be able to sell it to you. I just dont know why you would want to use that stuff! Yuck!

Anyways good luck with the new Spa:)
