Gel Nail Lifting & Splitting: Causes & Prevention

Hello,
I just did my friends nails the same way I did mine. Mine are good, no lifting, splitting or so. My friend just called me one day after I did her nails and told me 3 nails are cracking and splitting at the top -not the tip-. I didn't use any primer cause the gel I'm using is pretty good and as I said, my nails are just fine. Could the cracking be a result of not using the primer? Thank you very much!

What is the brand of product you are using, if it comes with primer, you should use it.  Lifting is due to a few reasons, your friends nail shape is quite possibly different to yours, if her nail bed is flat, the product will lift, if you didnt remove dead skin and cuticle it will lift, if you applied to much product around cuticle or if it ran into the cuticle it will lift, or maybe she just picked at them?
