Split Toenail: Causes, Remedies & Shoe Recommendations

My large toe nail grows and grows with a split as about 3/4 from the bottom the nail the splits, This has been happening for years and i was wondering if there is anything that anyone could recommend to cure this as i need to get shoes with no open toes and as i now need a bit of a heel these type of shoes have a narrow front and the top of the shoe tends to bear on the nail and although the toe/nail does not hurt otherwise does with most shoes.

Something has happened to the actively growing part of your nail(AKA the matrix) to damage it, and the damage is causing it to split in this annoying, zipperlike way.

I think it would be a good idea to get in for a pedicure in a reputable salon, and have a very thin overlay applied on top of that splitting nail- it will repair in cosmetically, and sometimes it even helps it stop happening altogether.
