Recovering Damaged Natural Nails After Acrylics: A Guide

Question
I'm going cold turkey after decades of acrylic nails, and my natural nails are damaged beyond belief.  They are paper thin; don't seem to grow; two are split into the nail bed itself.  HELP ME!!  I can't afford acrylics anymore and would like to get my natural nails to a strong, healthy state.

Answer
hi patrikia

sorry to hear about your nails :(
i have seen plenty of trashed nails unfortunatly.
it isnt necessary, but inexperienced technicians over file onto the natural nail plate, which makes them thin. or the acrylic is violently pulled off by metal tools or by some clients teeth!

either of these thin out the natural nail, it doesnt matter whether you have acrylic, gel or fireglass nails. if the product is pulled off of heavy handed filing occurs, your nails will be thin afterwards.
the good news is that the damage to your nails will grow out.
the bad news is it will take 3-5 months :(

in the mean time treat your nails very gently.
use a good nail oil such as creative nail designs "solar oil".
wear gloves when doing any washing up or housework.
wear a nail strengthener (not a hardener) like creatives "toughen up"

next time you have acrylics, ask lots of questions about how qualified they are and the bottom line is, you should never feel any pain at all when you are having them done

good luck
