OPI Axxium Gel: Is it Safe for Healthy Nails?

Question
I have great growing nails.  They are hard and really grow great.  I went and had a manicure and they are promoting the new OPI Axxium Gel.  This really intrigued me, but I have some questions.  Is this product like fake nails?  will my nails not be able to breath?  I do not use fake nails because they have destroyed my nails in the past.  However I would like to have nail polish on them and not have to worry about them.

I just want to make sure that this product - if I stop using it wont hurt my nails from growing later.

Answer
Jennifer,
First, if you have great natural nails, then DO NOT get product on them. I would NEVER suggest this to a client if her nails were that beautiful!
Second, nails do not breathe. Do you color your hair? Would you stop coloring your hair so it could breathe? It is the same thing. Nails and hair are made of keratin, do not have pores like skin, therefore do not need to breathe!
Axxium is an artificial product. Just like acrylic.
Artificial products do not destroy the nails--it is unskilled techs who ruin the nails. Nails will be softer when artificial product is removed, but the product itself will never destroy the nails.
Unfortunately, if you do not get product on, your polish will not last as long as if you did have artificial product on.
If your tech uses a good technique and does not soak your nails but does a dry manicure, your polish should last quite some time.
My clients can go almost two weeks if they take care of their nails.
Good luck with your decision.
I apologize for the delay in answering; my computer keeps crashing.
