QuestionI got "Bio UV Gel" or some wording like that - nails done about 2 weeks ago and I was looking into getting them removed and found all this info about MMA. Now I'm worried after reading everything about the procedure. I had the nails done and a pedicure for $60 at I assume a NSS. I've emailed the local rep for Bio Subculture asking for salons in my area that are using this product. I trust these salons are reputable enough to remove these nails safely. I fear going back to the place I had them done and them ripping or grinding them off. I noticed that the few times I jammed my nail into something (it's happened a few times) my finger was very sore afterwards and the nails have not broke off. When she applied them they scuffed the natural nail then using a dremel tool, then used brush dipped in a liquid, then a pink powder and applied the "gel" to my nail. I noticed that about 2 days after the nail started to turn kinda yellow (I had perm French done0 I smoke, and attributed it to that, but another girl I went with who doesn't smoke said the same thing was happening to hers. Anyways, what is the proper procedure for removal of the nails and how can I be sure in future that I am getting what it advertised?
Thanks,
Samantha
AnswerDear Samantha,
YES, regretably it does seem as if you have been scammed and acryic was applied in an innapropriate fashion that definately caused some damage to your natural nails.
First, you must report them to the appropriate authorities in your state.
Only through the complaints of consumers will places like that be closed down.
Cheap, and often toxic, acrylics will yellow with age. No matter what you do.
Proper procedure for acrylic is: soaking off in remover (acetone based) for 20-30 minutes.
For Uv Gel: some are soak offs (about 3 brands that I know of) and the rest are filed off to the thinnest layer, left to protect the nail, and to grow out.
