Gel Nail Ripped Pinkie Nail: What Should You Do?

Question
QUESTION: My pinkie nail had ripped under my gel nail.  I told the girl when I went in to get it filled.  I don't think she understood me.  Now it has been filled but it is very tender to the touch. Should I just leave it and be careful or should I hae it soaked off and let it heal?

ANSWER: If you have true gel nails they won't soak off, they'll have to be filed off. In that case, I would advise keeping the nail short and letting it grow out. Make sure you keep it watched in order to avoid any infection underneath it, but it should only take a few weeks before it grows out.

QUESTION: they are true gel nails and I noticed there was a blister under the nail so I popped it - clear liquid came out - soaked in peroxide - it is still tender and now is hot to the touch - won't it hurt to get filed off?

Answer
Yes, it will hurt to file it off. That's why I recommend that you leave it alone. Leave the gel on your nail and just let the nail grow out until it's far past the point where it's damaged. Sorry, looking back at my original answer I realize I didn't make that quite clear. Yeah-- I'd definitely leave the gel on and just let the nail grow.
