QuestionHello,
I have "googled", "binged", and searched and searched for an answer to this question and I have even asked my two nail specialists and I cannot seem to find an answer. I get my nails done with acrylic in all different styles and colors, and sometimes the clear topcoat on my nails turns a grayish-black color. The grayness is opaque, and I can still see the colored polish/design underneath it, that's why I'm assuming must be the clear topcoat that is turning grey. This has happened to me a number if times, and usually I just come home and take off the top coat with nail polish remover and apply my own (a pesky and aggravating task especially since I pay on average from $50 to $150 for unique exotic nail designs). But this time I got a UV sealant top coat on my nails and since that doesn't come off with nail polish remover, I can't get the grayness off my nails on my own, so now I am going to have to go back (and probably pay again) to get my UV top coat taken off and done over. And whose to say it won't turn grey all over again? (Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.) Anyway, does anyone know what is causing this? Is it something I am doing? Is it something wrong with the nail shop's polish? This is a small problem that is becoming increasingly agitating. I don't have money to waste. Please help!
AnswerHi Candice
That is a great question and one that I haven't seen addressed on this forum before.
The problem is the topcoat. You'll need your tech to use a product that is not tack-free. In other words, they must use alcohol to "cleanse" the nail after it is cured. There is something about it that repels things like mascara, hair dye, newsprint, etc. I have a client that had the same issue, and this helped her.
I hope I have answered your question, but if you need clarification, please let me know : )
