Dark Spots on Nails After Quick Dry Polish - Causes & Solutions
QuestionI have polished my nails with a lovely red color and then applied a quick dry (fingers and toes). I noticed when I was getting dressed that some of my nails have very dark spots. I noticed this also happened with another color I had on and I thought it was the polish and threw it out. I assume it's the quick dry coat? I use the same bottle of quick dry but it only happened with this bright red and a lovely bright pink....?? Why? also used different brands... the red was Revlon and the pink Chanel....???
AnswerMy first instinct to your problem is that the topcoat you're using is picking up-- or absorbing-- dark dyes from clothing, hair, shoes, socks, cell phone case-- anything you might touch regularly that has a dark dye or stain on it. Some topcoats are really bad at picking up dyes this way. Try rubbing your nails with a little rubbing alcohol and see if it takes the dark spots off. Sometimes this works, sometimes you just have to repolish. You can usually use a soft buffer to buff the shine (and dark spots) off of your nails, then re-apply topcoat.
Make sure your nails are totally dry before you handle anything with a dark dye. If that doesn't solve the problem, try experimenting with a different brand of topcoat. Professional brands like Poshe and Seche Vite are both very popular with the pros and can usually be found for retail at salons or Sally Beauty Supply.
