ANSWER: What's up Bryce let me ask you first what kind of clippers and edgers are you using? it is very simple I always cut against the grain some people do not like it but the cut comes out cleaner when you cut against the grain rather then with.

QUESTION: first let me say thanks for the reply. i have the oster 76 classic clippers and andis outliners. so against the grain works better for caesars but wont that get rid of waves if you have them? i also wanted to know when lining up your hair, how do you get those great curves when lining the sides? Thanks again.
AnswerThose are great pairs of clippers and trimmers you have. Some people believe that if you cut against the grain you will cut the waves out, let me say that it is NOT true. You just need to use a bigger blade. For example if you are using a 1 1/2 with the grain you would use a 2 against the grain then go back over it with a 1 1/2 or even a 1a with the grain to lay it down this will give you a clean professional cut.
For your second question. It is all about how you move the trimmer to get the results you want just like drawing a picture also it goes by the person head shape.
