DIY Haircuts: Achieving a 360 Look - Cutting with the Grain
QuestionQUESTION: what's up? i have 2 questions. i've been cutting my own head now for 8-9 months and i've got really good at it and i have a newfound respect for barbers. i've always cut my hair 'against' the grain and i now i'm gonna go for the "360" look but i know that requires me to cut my hair 'with' the grain. my questions are: how can i get that "low-but-not-bald" look if i cut 'with' the grain of my hair and how can i cut with the grain on the crown of my head without putting a plug in my head?
ANSWER: Well before I answer this question I must say that it is FALSE that you have to cut with the grain to get and keep waves. Now to answer your questions, you can use a 1A with the grain it will cut it low but not too low. The key of nice waves is hair, the thicker the better but if you want a low cut look, your waves will still be there believe me. For your next question I would not even attempt it, although I know some one who does it every week but the key is to find any swirls and follow the direction of it and try not to go any other way or you will have a patch! Good Luck and hope this helps any more questions feel free to ask

QUESTION: man, i appreciate the advice cuz. i'll try what you suggested. i have a couple more questions and i'm out ya head. i know the best way to get a 360 is to get a good pomade, brush a lot and du-rag ya head. My questions are what's the difference btwn. the black can of sportin' waves and the gold can.? what pomade would you recommend i use? how often should i use it? and can i put hair grease on my hair right after i put the pomade in to keep my hair from getting that cakey buildup that wave pomade leaves behind. Thanx!
AnswerTo be honest I have no idea I never seen the Gold can I have used the black can and got great results I also use Murrays pomade it is in an orange can and it also works great. What I do first to get the waves in proper I cut my hair against the grain with a 1A, every night when I get in the shower I wash my hair with hot water and shampoo then when I get out I throw in the pomade brush for a few minutes and tie a doo-rag on I leave the doo-rag on all night and when I get up I take it off and brush for a few minutes then put it back on and leave it on all day, until I get into the shower again the next night and repeat over and over until my wave are in there usually takes about a week to see them forming in good and as the hair grows the thicker they will be, the thicker the hair the better the waves. I wash my hair every night because pomade is VERY thick and clogs your pours I don't brush like everyone else you know all day lol and still get the same results. Also once your waves come in depending on the texture of your hair when you cut it, cut it with a 2 or 1 1/2 to keep it thick I would not recommend putting in grease with the pomade too much ede up with a messy head. One more thing after your waves are in thick you can cut down the pomade use (optional) I go from everyday to about 2-3 times a week normally when I get a hair cut once I need another I don't use any. Hope this helps any more questions feel free to ask I am here! :)
