Illinois Manicure & Pedicure Regulations: Drill Bit & Razor Use
QuestionI've been told that it's illegal in Illinois to use the drill bits to file down/shape acrylic nails, and that it must be done by hand. Also, that it's illegal to use the razor during a pedicure to cut off dead skin, etc. And, the only reason that manicurists continue to use these items is that the fines are so low it doesn't make it worth changing how manicures/pedicures are done. Anything to this?
AnswerSharon-
Well I too have heard that a lot of places would rather pay the fine and have the instant results despite the risks. Its easier to cut off dead skin and use the efile (sometimes incorrectly) to shave down service time and give customers instant results. This to me is not professional or responsible.
I can tell you I do not use the creto blade to cut dead skin. It is not safe for use by techs and that is why it is illegal and places caught using it are fined. It technically is a surgical implement and is for use by a physician such as a podiatrist. One can over cut or cause serious damage. And if cut wrong can cause it to grow back thicker and harder. I know what your going to say next, they sell it in stores though. I know I wish they did not because it sends the wrong message.
I am not sure to be honest about Illinois and the bits. I would check with the state board there. You can probably email them online and find out.
Good Luck
