QuestionQUESTION: I am looking at some tanzanite and the cut is described as a faceted flower cut. Is this a cut like a diamond cut with 50 some odd facets or something else entirely? Thank you!!
ANSWER: Hi Terry,
That should be a cut that has facets on the pavillion that gives the look of a flower when you look into the stone.

QUESTION: So is this in any way a comparison to a Portuguese cut? I currently have Portuguese rounds and was trying to match the cut, is the faceted flower cut not the same?
Thank you...
ANSWER: Hi Terry,
No I do not think it is the same. The only way to know is for me to have a picture of the stone in question. To see how it is cut.

QUESTION: I tried copying the Tanzanite into this email but it wouldn't transfer. The best I could do is give you the link where you can see the gem yourself and maybe determine if its a Portuguese cut or really a Flower cut. The info received from the seller says a Flower cut and again Im not famaliar with that cut. As mentioned I am trying to match exisitng Portuguese Tanzanite. I am trying to find 20 4-5mm calibrated super dark round Tanzanites to make a bracelet. I appreciate your help!

AnswerTerry,
Why tanzanite? They are really soft and will scratch very easily. I am re-polishing these for people all the time. If it were me I would be
looking at sapphires. They look very much the same in color but wear much better. The Portuguese cut adds weight to the stone and more depth of color for the tanzanite. It would to the same for the sapphire. The alpha imports is a good source for tanzanite, I have bought tanzanite myself from them.
I am not sure how you would like me to help.
