QuestionHi there, what can use to coat a silver ring which is badly tarnished, are there any silver dips etc; silver cleaner has not worked.
Kind Regards,
E McPherson.
AnswerHi,
First of all the question is very simple but yet not very clear, if you are a jeweler then do this,
1.- deep the ring in boric acid mixed with denatured alcohol
2.- heat the ring with the jewelers torch till it is hot enough
3.- if the ring has no stones then quench it in pickle acid
4.- if the ring has stones then wait for it to cool down and then immerse it in pickle acid for few minutes.
This will take away the tarnish.
One other but more expensive way is to put the item in a magnetic tumbler for 15 minutes and it will clean and polish it at the same time. (magnetic tumblers are around $800)
I hope it helps.
