Identifying Your Grandmother's Antique Ring: Symbol Meanings & Possible Era

Question
Hello Peter,
I have recently inherited my grandmothers ring. It has an anchor, 22, crown, small lower case r or uppercase T (but I think it is an r) facing left to right; not like the anchor which is on its side. It has an JM inlaid but also are this large O and W...I am very interested to know more about this ring and the year it was produced. I appreciate your response,
Kindly,
Nera

Answer
Greetings,

The symbols mean
Anchor = Birmingham Assay Office
Anchor on it's side = Gold or Platinum
22 = 22 Karat **However this was relatively rare in Brimingham
The Crown = Assayed as Standard of British Origin
Lower case r (which resembles an upper case T) = 1897

The rest of the marks would be the makers mark.

Cheers, P
