Antique Ring Authenticity: Is My Husband's Replica Genuine?

Question
My husband bought me an antique "replica" ring for X-mas from Ebay.  Some aspects of the ring are beautiful (filigree setting) but it appears to be wider on one side, and the detailing in housing of the stones (3 aquamarines) seems sloppy and asymmetrical.  The stones also seem to have different cuts (one is almost completely flat on top).  I don't want to disappoint my husband, he is very proud of his purchase, but I'm wondering about the authenticity of this ring.  Could a jeweler possible "clean up" some of the detailing?

Answer
Hello,

I apologise for the late response.
It is really hard to answer this question with out seeing the ring. Maybe send a pic to pjcoombs@bold.net.au
It is likely that it was cast and as such has been cleaned up badly. It is likely that it can be cleaned up...and you may be able to have the flat stone replaced. Its likely that they are cheap stones from Thailand and have been badly cut.

A good jeweller that does hand work should be able to do something with this for you.

Unfortunately there is some really bad finished stuff for sale on the net, but I'm sure your husbands heart is in the right place.

Good luck with your ring.
Happy New Year, P
