Decoding a 1930s Engagement Solitaire Setting: Meaning & Authenticity

Question
Hi there!  I have a solitaire engagement ring setting and am a little curious about it.  It's stamped with a design that looks like two diamonds - like this <><> and inside the first diamond there is a K and the second there is an 8.  What do these mean?  Also, do you know if this is a real 1930's ring or a reproduction.  The reason I am curious is because I'm tring to find a wedding band that may match it, and some basic knowledge of the ring.  Thanks!

Answer
Hello Janyce - The stamps you describe are probably the manufacturer of the ring. I have not been able to locate the mark like you describe. There are quite a few manufacturer's that use a K and a Diamond shape, but not as you describe. Do you know whether the ring is carat gold ? i.e. marked 14K? If not, you should get it tested for gold content.  There is no way of telling whether the ring is vintage 1930 unless you can identify the manufacturer. I would first determine if the ring is precious metal or costume and then get an appraisal from an estate appraiser knowledgeable in vintage jewelry. There are several online appraisal sites that deal with photographs. Copy and paste the below url into your browser address field for more information.
