Resizing & Adding Stones to Your Engagement Ring: A Guide

Question
My engagement ring is a past present future ring.  I have lost a lot of weight and was told by Kings Jewelry Store that it could be resized for free since it was bought there.  Is this a process of using the same band by melting it to fit smaller, or do they place the stones on a different band altogether?

If they melt down the same band to just resize it, I also wanted to ask if there is a way to add another smaller two stones to each side so there would be five stones total.  The settings are on raised prongs.

Thanks so much for your help, Orlando!

Answer
Hi Kristy,
First of all there is no "melting" in the process of sizing a ring smaller. There is no problem to set extra stones on the sides and if I was doing it I will recommend to set them pave style or Gipsy setting.
You can also set the stones on prongs but it will take a lot more work and money and it might not look as nice.

I assume you might need 2 diamonds of .05 carats each therefore you might be looking at an expense of around $80 to $100 out the door. (more than that will be too much)

Hope it helps,
