Identifying and Valuing a Vintage 1947 MGS Class Ring - Sterling Silver

Question
My husband bought an old class ring at an auction for me. It is Silver and cleaned up quite nicely. It has a crest of silver on the top with 1947 engraved above the initials MGS, it appears to have a very small chipped black stone, possibly an onyx on the bottom of the crest. The inside of the ring is stamped Sterling, and has the name Bale Boston stamped inside as well. I was just curious as to what school this could have been from, and maybe a ballpark estimate of its value. It is in really good condition, the band looks like it has been cut in two at the very bottom, or maybe worn in two. I assume it is a mans ring, my husband can wear it and he has a size 11 ring finger. Any information you would have would be appreciated, I tried to look up the school initials but found way to many to wade through. We are located in Indiana if that would help
Thank you for your time and information.

Answer
G'day Jennifer and many thanks for your query

The only Bale Boston school I can find is Theodore Bale's Ballet school, and as you say, even if that were correct, there would be thousands of names to wade through.

What you must remember about silver is that just because it's old - it's still silver. This is the cheaper of the precious metals ($12.88 ounce) against gold at over $630. Age in this case doesn't add anything to the value.

To go any further through the internet would seem impossible, and without it being a significant find, personally I wouldn't pursue it - simple enjoy it.

Sorry I can't be of any more help than that.

Should you find out anything, you might like to post it to my blog at: http://how2valuejewelry.com/ as others might be interested in this kind of 'Class' item.

Kind regards.
