Understanding '18' Stamps on Rings: Gold, Platinum, or Silver?

i have a ring in silver color and inside the ring it is stamped 18 thats all no k beside it, what does that mean. is the ring gold or platnium or silver.

stamps on rings can be difficult to know what they stand for..
generally speaking in 18 will refer to 18karet..
you should take this ring into a Goldsmith and have him tell you if it's silver, white gold or platinum.. it should be a very simple acid test and should not cost you anything or if it does not more than $10..
Goldsmith's all vary ..some will help you for nothing some will rip you off..
