Understanding 14Kdz Gold: What Does It Mean?
QuestionHello,
I have searched everywhere that I can and I can't find any info at all so I thought maybe you could help me or know someone that could. I recently bought a charm for a necklace from a pawn shop. I thought the mark was 14KT ,but after I got home and looked at it closer with a loupe I saw that the marking was actually 14KDZ I can't find any info or reference to KDZ anywhere, I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask to try to find out what the abbreviation is supposed to be for. The marking is on the slide ring that is on the charm so I thought that maybe the bezel was replaced because you can't actually see the 1 in 14 because of gold used to solder the slide ring together so all that is visible of the marking is 4KDZ , but as I said I can't find any info on what KDZ might mean any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Thomas
AnswerHello Thomas and thank you for your inquiry. I wish I could tell you I have the answer to your questions. I have searched my resources and the internet. I find a lot of references to kDZ and gold in the same articles, but no explanation. You might take it to an estate appraiser or even a gemologist for testing. The KDZ might be a foreign designation of some kind, but does not appear in any of my normal "gold" marking resources. A professional proficient in the testing of precious metals might be able to be of more help to you. Good luck
