Hi! This was my grandmother's engagement ring from the late 40s. It has two diamonds vertically set on top of one another. Encasing the diamonds is an elongated hexagon (almost like a stretched diamond in shape) made out of thin white gold. The way the setting looks, it is almost reminiscent of a 2-light stoplight with a pointy top & bottom. I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a ring like this, and cannot seem to find one (antique stores, ebay etc.).
I really want to find a ring that resembles this one, and I don't know if I should be looking at a specific period in time that these would have been more popular or what other options there might be. Engagement rings with two diamonds equal in size seem to be rare, but I have yet to see a ring with them set directly above one another. The vertically set two-diamond aspect is the most important to me, I have a strong attachment to the idea of the ring representing two people together, and the vertical arrangement is unique just like my grandmother. You might try some of the custom ring sites online - the url for one is listed below. Just click on the url or copy and paste into your browser address field and hit enter. I have never used them, but their site rate is good.

You might also keep watching the ebay.com auction site under "Victorian or Edwardian Rings" for something similar. If the ring is an older one it would be difficult to match unless you had a manufacturer name that is still in business. There are also sites that offer a "Wanted" area where you can list and picture items you are seeking. If you like, I will keep you picture and if I find anything similar will be glad to let you know.
