Authentic German Silver-Enamel Bracelet with Turquoise Panels
QuestionI have a"vintage" silver bracelet. It has 3 2.5" square panels embossed with turquoise laquer. Each panel has 2 cranes or herons & Mt. Fuji on them. The only marking I can find is on the tag-clasp, with the same markings as the panels, and it reads "Made in Germany". Can you tell me what this is? I can find nothing like it anywhere.
Answer Hello Patti and thank you for your inquiry. Sounds like you have a beautiful bracelet. A lot of jewelry and other decorative items were made in Germany during and shortly after the Art Deco Period. There was a lot of interest in orientalia. You don't say if it is also marked "sterling". If not, it could be 800 silver. There were many jewelry manufacturers in Germany during this period and most were just marked "Germany" or Made In Germany. You may be able to find a similar design in a book on German ornamantation - possibly available in your local library. That particular scene, however, was very popular. Hope this helps and enjoy your bracelet !
