Identifying German Jewelry Marks: Understanding 'GERMANY K&I' and 'GERMANY K&L'

Hello, I have a pair of large single pearl pierced earrings that are marked on the yellow metal post "GERMANY K&I XX", or possibly "GERMANY K&L XX".  Can you please tell me anything about this mark?  Thank you so much.

Hello Elizabeth and thank you for your inquiry. You don't mention whether the earrings are set in precious metal or are genuine pearls. That might make a difference in the marking meanings. Since they were made in Germany the K&L is probably the manufacturer. The XX could be a date 1920? or just another design mark. I do not have a listing of European jewelry manufacturers but you might find some information in your public library. A lot of jewelry was imported from Germany and still is today.
