Decoding Jewelry Stamps: Understanding 925 & 14K Markings
QuestionI recently bought a charm bracelet that has a silver lobster clasp and a three ring chain band. It is marked from Peru and has a stamp all together with 925 1/8 14k said it was real 14k but wondering if you could tell me what stamp means? Thank you for your time.
AnswerHi Lorraine, 1/8 th 14 karat? I can only surmise that it means that either the 14k part is 1/8 pure 14k or it is a Vermeil overlay comprising 1/8 of the bracelet? I have never seen this stamp before. There are many items coming out of various foreign countries where they have no set standards for stamp or makers marks. Without seeing the item you have it is hard to tell you more. Are you here in the US? Take the bracelet to a good jeweler locally and have them appraise it for you. Good luck.
