How to Buff White Gold at Home: Prevent Scratches & Maintain Shine
QuestionI have recently purchased a white gold wedding band. It is a comfort fit with 5 diamonds. After reading the comments from this website I didn't realize that this type of ring would show the scuff marks just so easily. I don't really want to go to the jeweler every day to have it buffed/polished. Is there a cloth I can use at home to buff it on a daily bases? I checked on line for buffing compounds but so glad I didn't try that option since I'm not an expert on which one to use. (Great to know to keep it away from Chlorine!)

AnswerDear Pamela,
Frequent buffing is harmful to your jewelry. Every time it is done metal is removed and the piece is weakened. In order to rhodium plate properly a piece must be perfectly clean and smooth. We have to remove considerable metal depending upon how scratched it is.
A polishing or "rouge" cloth is available at the market or most jewelers. It removes primarily tarnish. Unless your band is really annoying to you you should live with the scratches - they are a natural and typical effect of wearing something daily.

Rich
