Pendant Repair Inquiry - Side View & Bail Attachment

Question

Image009pendant
Hello, Thomas--
I appreciate your thoughtful answer to my question about the pendant.  I tried to send the photo of the side view of the pendant but your mail was maxed out for a couple of days.  The drawing of the bail you attached didn't come through, so I still don't quite know how it would be attached to the pendant.  Do you have a laser welder?  Could I send the pendant to you to get it fixed?  My husband gave me this pendant, a matching ring and earrings and the chain, so that's why I am so interested in getting it fixed.  The pendant did come with a tiny chain that it fits.
Thanks!

Ann, I see the sketch got through. I will put the web link here anyway:

I still believe your best course is to be patient and try to find a jeweler with the welder or who has access to one.

If this does not happen, there are two possibilities. The first is likely one you aren't excited about but that is to wear the pendant on a different chain. Also, consider that with the bail changes, if you can find someone to do that work, the pendant may not fit so flat on regular chains which do not have a "v" in the center.  All of this is to consider.

Another option I have done only once in memory is to have a jeweler slightly round the "v" and perhaps grind out the inside of the bail slightly to allow a fit over the point.  To round out the point will mean solder must be flowed into the links joints directly behind the point to keep all together then the point slightly rounded and reduces in width.

I do wish I could help you get the job done but with the current work situation that cannot be.

If you need more, do not hesitate to get back.

Ann, we do not have a laser welder. Sorry..but that is what is needed.  I work tomorrow now that the busy season has started and will answer this tomorrow evening. What I will do in the meantime is get the sketch of the bail I have in mind and put it on a website. When you get the answer, I will have a link to the website so you can see the picture.

Thanks for getting back with the side view. This is just what I thought it would be.

See you tomorrow. God Bless and Peace. Thomas.
