Identifying a Vintage Pendant: Renaissance Woman & Latin Inscription

Question

front
Dear Bill and Sally:

I am trying to learn more about a vintage pendant I recently purchased.

The front of the pendant depicts a renaissance woman near a scroll with a Latin (?) inscription.  On the back of the pendant is the quote "When alive, I shall be among the living, and when dead, I shall [still] be among the living."  Under the quote are three illegible letters and "Dozaguma P."

The pendant appears to have been hand painted on mother of pearl.  The bale of the pendant has an illegible mark.

My preliminary research turned up a lustered Deruta display plate by an unknown artist.  The plate, which is on display at the Getty museum, shows the same scene as the front of the pendant.

Do you think my pendant is a piece that was sold by a museum gift shop or could there be more of a story to the meaning of the pendant?

Answer
Hello Kathy and thank you for your inquiry. Your pendant is very beautiful and worth researching further. I wish I could give you some information, but I have turned up nothing in my resources. You might try talking with someone at the Getty museum for more information on the plate - that might lead to the discovery of who made the quote and the design on the plate. Often museums do replica jewelry and the item usually has an informational tag with it. I will also keep a copy of the picture and if I find out anything will definitely let you know. Good luck !
