Question
My auntie Gave me a ring for my christmas and i have been trying to discover what the hallmarks mean.. but am a bit stuck!! can you help?

its a small ring and the symbols are:
SJ (crown) 375 *theres one that looks like a dot in a square* and 'm'

i know the 'm' means it was made in 1986
and the 375 means it is 9 carrat gold, but after that, i couldn't find any more information. please help!

Answer
Hello Charlotte and thank you for your inquiry. It sounds as if your ring may be British in origin. There are several jewelers with the initials SJ in London. I suggest you get a copy of Jackson's Hallmarks by Ian Pickford (very inexpensive) and try to match up your mark. There are so many different crowns and markings, you would really need to compare the piece. This book is an excellent resource and contains all the British Isles hallmarks. Hope this helps !
