QuestionCould I get a jeweler or goldsmith to melt down all my old gold jewelry that I no longer wear, and make it into a gold stone? I have in mind a stone that would be very smooth, very shiny, and a kind of rounded oval shape, something that would fit in the palm of your hand. How hard would this be to do? How much do you think a jeweler might charge? Thanks!!
AnswerHi Anna,
You could certainly do this. You will need to find a goldsmith in your area to handle that for you. I have no idea what a smith might charge for their time to do this, but you are giving them the gold so you would simply be paying for the labor to melt it, pour it into a oval mold and polish it.
I would start by calling all of the local jewelers, seeing if they keep a smith on staff or know of one and then get price quotes before you agree to have someone do it for you.
Have fun with it,
Lisa
