Gold Flecks in Emeralds: Identification & Value Impact

Question
I recently purchased a vintage emerald ring. The emerald has beautiful dark grass green color and clarity with seemingly natural, feathery inclusions, and is emerald cut, ca 15x10mm. What is unusual, that the flat top surface also reveals tiny gold flecks in the stone (5-6). Would you have any idea what these flecks could be and if they diminish the value of the stone?

Answer
Hello,

I have never heard of Emerald having gold flecks in the stone.  If it is on the surface then it is not part of the stone.  Instead it was polished onto the stone from a foreign source.  That could be repolished off of the stone if that is the a case so no it would not hurt the value of the stone.
