Identifying & Valuing Your Copley 10K Gold Ring with Black Stone
QuestionHello.. I would like to begin by Thanking you for this wonderful service. I was given a ring by a family member that she attained through a very old friend. The ring in question is a gold ring with markings on the inside of the band that states 10K and COPLEY. The ring has a black square stone which has an engraved heart that sinks in a little and inside the heart there is an engraving of what seems to be 2 heads (male and female / male and male.. not sure) looking to the left. One of the heads has a headband. On the inside of the heart to the lower left edging there is another engraving that I believe says "HEMETINE". The ring looks very old.. Would you happen to know anything about this ring? Thank You
AnswerHi Johnny, Sound to me like the ring is from the 30's to 1940's possibly which usually were made of 10k gold. The stone is Hematite. A heavyish type stone of grey/blue/black and takes a good polish. Not that expensive a stone but very widely used in that era. The
copley mark is merely the company or maker of the ring.
