Silver Heart Necklace: Addressing Water Spots & Etching

Question
Hi, I have a necklace with a large silver metal heart pendant and it has a hammered area creating an etching look down the middle.  I notice that there are a few very small spots that look like water-type marks, perhaps created by humidity. The spots are very small and only a fine circle of darkish black is seen, so the spots are hollow with the silver showing in the middle of the spot.  If this makes sense.  Polishing with silver polish on the pendant has not worked nor has anything else.  Do you have any suggestions on how I might salvage the pendant?

Answer
Hello Donna and thank you for your inquiry. Are you sure the item is Sterling ? It should be marked as such or as 925. This might make a difference in the way it cleans up. If it is sterling you might use a dampened q-tip dipped in a small amount of Bon-Ami powder cleanser and gently rub the darkened area. Was the polish you used also a cleanser ? You could also try Tarnex also on a q-tip, but be sure to rinse it right away. These ideas won't work on pewter or may damage silver plate so that is why I said make sure it is sterling silver. Hope this helps and good luck !
